Parents and Community Contribute $2.4 Million to Fund Arts, Classroom Aides, and Technology
Thanks to extraordinary support from our community, Kiddo! will meet its 2011-2012 annual fundraising goal of $2.4 million. Along with Annual Campaign contributions from school parents and the community, the $2.4 million includes $197,000 from the Business Partners Program, $35,000 from shopping programs like eScrip, Mill Valley Market’s Shop & Give, Whole Foods and $144,000 interest from the Kiddo! Endowment Fund.
Kiddo! Executive Director Trisha Garlock stressed, however, that the $2.4 million includes $420,000 pledged by supporters but not yet received by the organization. “This year’s programs are now secure for the students. We want to thank all of our supporters who have sent us their contributions and we urge those who have not yet done so to fulfill their pledges so we can, in turn, fulfill our commitment to Mill Valley’s school children,” said Garlock.
Because of state budget cuts to our public schools, private funding through Kiddo! has become more important to maintaining high levels of student learning in Mill Valley’s K-8 schools. Kira Keane, Chair of the Kiddo! Board of Directors, added, “In 2011, Kiddo! had to respond to unprecedented state budget cuts to our public schools. Thanks to exceptional parent and community support we are able to maintain our arts programs and increase funding for additional programs that are no longer funded by the state. “
In 2011, the Kiddo! Annual Campaign asked parents to contribute $950 per student to fund arts programs, classroom and library aides, and technology for kindergarten through eighth-grade students in Mill Valley’s public schools. Local businesses, grandparents and community members also support Mill Valley’s school children by contributing to Kiddo!
